Abstract

This study systematically reviews the literature on mobile banking adoption among university students to identify the key determinants and barriers shaping adoption decisions, the theoretical frameworks most commonly applied, and directions for future research. Following the PRISMA 2020 protocol, 46 peer-reviewed studies published between 2010 and 2024 were identified, screened, and synthesized. The review shows that perceived usefulness, trust, social influence, ease of use, and financial literacy are the principal drivers of adoption, while lack of awareness, technological constraints, and security concerns remain the main barriers. Most reviewed studies draw on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), are cross-sectional, concentrate on business or information-technology students, and are concentrated in Asia and Africa. These findings suggest that universities and financial institutions should prioritize targeted digital-literacy and trust-building initiatives, particularly for students outside business and technology disciplines, while future research should adopt more diverse, longitudinal designs to capture how adoption evolves over time
